Implant Restoration

Dental implants are one way to replace missing or lost teeth. Dr. Lennon can help you determine the best treatment for your condition, and if dental implants are indicated, you and Dr. Lennon will work with a specialist as the process involves both placing and restoring the implants.

Advantages of implants:

  • Bone preservation
  • Reduced need to grind down healthy teeth
  • Very good long-term success rate

Types of implants:

  • Root Implant
  • Plate Form Implant
  • Subperiosteal Implant

The most popular type of implant, the "root implant," mirrors the size and shape of a patient's original tooth. In this case, an implant or artificial root is placed into the jawbone under local anesthesia. Once this is allowed to heal and integrate with the bone, the patient returns to have a new tooth fitted into the implant. The entire process may take from three to eight months.

The "plate form implant" is ideal in situations where the jawbone is not wide enough to properly support a root implant. The plate form implant is long and thin, unlike the root implant, and anchors into thin jawbones. It is inserted the same way as a root implant. In certain cases, the plate form implant is immediately fitted with the restoration without waiting for the healing process to run its course.

The "subperiosteal implant" is used when the jawbone has receded to the point where it can no longer support a permanent implant. If an implant is the best treatment for you, Dr. Lennon will restore the implant and work closely with a specialist to ensure that you have the proper care. With good hygiene, dental implants can last for decades.
